All we could really do was hold it together, “wear a mask”, and try to make sense of our being. Just like people everywhere, our own engaged couples were engrossed in aligning their derailed lives too! Especially when it came to wedding plans – what a mission. The usual wedding jitters were suddenly replaced with butterflies of uncertainty and the endless muddle of rescheduling was straining to say the least!
Thankfully, with all of us getting back to some sort of routine, the wedding season seems to be getting back into full swing again, yay! We’re busier than ever, but the COVID-19 pandemic definitely had its impacts.
As professional wedding planners, we assure you, there are several factors that are bound to change. Here are some COVID POSITIVE (pun intended) predictions that the wedding industry may witness post the infamous pandemic.
OUR 5 PREDICTIONS FOR WEDDINGS POST-COVID:
As a general consensus, the feeling of wanderlust has never been stronger! People can’t wait to get away, and you can’t keep us locked down any longer. The travel industry wants to get back on track, and adventurers want to explore!

Let’s face it, people love weddings and they want to be there for the celebration… We understand. But do you really want everyone to attend? More importantly, do you really want to pay for them all? Lol. Live Streaming your wedding is the PERFECT solution to saving costs (and cutting your guest list IN HALF)!
Social distancing normalized Live Streaming Wedding Videos. This is super cool as a few years ago, nobody was ready for it, or couples felt that it was more of a luxury item than a necessity at the time. It was very rare for people to invest in a wedding video, back then, and sometimes even today, let alone live streaming video. And fair enough, weddings are expensive as it is! But please, let’s not skimp on video! If you can’t afford a wedding videographer, then you should livestream your wedding at the very least, for your memory's sake.
Post-COVID, live streaming your wedding is a must-have! With the accessibility we have these days, connecting with family and friends over the internet has never been easier! Live streaming your wedding day is such a cool and accessible way to connect.
After all the Zoom meetings and video calls during the pandemic, everyone and their kid knows that free live-stream video exists! This is awesome for the advancement of wedding videos and an affordable option for anyone to enjoy, no matter your budget, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the pandemic and COVID being the 4-letter C word it was, #IYKYK, navigating wedding and event planning through that period, was super deflating and crazy for everyone involved! Now with that whole ordeal slowly phasing out, and almost behind us, nearly-wedsnowadays don’t have to worry too much about the COVID-19 protection frameworks! Lucky!
But chances are no matter the season, nearly weds all over the world will run into more than their fair share of bumps and hurdles during their wedding planning journey; even without a pandemic! And you know what… It’s normal, but you don’t have to suffer.

Statistics show that there's less divorce in the community. Fantastic! And we have to agree with divorce trending down! We hear more about weddings than divorces in our circles, and it’s not just us being biased as wedding planners because love and marriage are our primary business.
There were 6,372 divorces granted by the family courts in 2021, the lowest annual number of divorces since 1979, said Stats NZ. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the divorce rate was 6.2 divorces per 1,000 estimated existing marriages, the lowest since the law changed in 1981 making it easier for couples to divorce.
This divorce rate is similar to 1974 levels when it was 6.4 divorces per 1,000 marriages. Does this mean society is valuing marriage more? Or perhaps couples are just not getting married enough?
For, we think this result is due to the median age of marrying in New Zealand being 30.8 years for women & 32.5 years for men. Rather than low divorce rates being a direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Getting married in your thirties, in theory, would inspire better decision-making, right? With a focus on “choosing the right partner” to spend the rest of your life with. Regardless, it’s good to see that marriage has become more intentional and that divorce is becoming a thing of the past. Thank goodness.
If you resonated with our first point... Here's a helpful article about a couple based in the United Kingdom, who wanted to get married in Samoa. Learn more about the reality of planning a destination wedding in the South Pacific island of Samoa! Spoiler alert, it's hard work! But it's worth it. :)
